Only call for emergencies.
If you need an ambulance, fire department, or police, call 911. For general information, please use other resources.
All cellphones can call 911 — even deactivated ones.
Teach children how and when to call 911, but monitor phone use to prevent accidental calls.
If you call 911 by mistake, stay on the line.
Hanging up triggers a callback to verify your safety.
Know your 911 address.
Make sure everyone in your home knows it, and that your address is posted visibly (at least 4 inches tall) and clearly seen from the road.
Stay calm and clear.
Speak slowly, follow the telecommunicator’s instructions, and listen carefully.
