Tips for Calling 911

• Only call for emergencies.
  If you need an ambulance, fire department, or police, call 911. For general information, please use other resources.

• All cellphones can call 911 — even deactivated ones.
  Teach children how and when to call 911, but monitor phone use to prevent accidental calls.

• If you call 911 by mistake, stay on the line.
  Hanging up triggers a callback to verify your safety.

• Know your 911 address.
  Make sure everyone in your home knows it, and that your address is posted visibly (at least 4 inches tall) and clearly seen from the road.

• Stay calm and clear.
  Speak slowly, follow the telecommunicator’s instructions, and listen carefully.
